Rainbow Valley CALs

Who doesn’t love a Crochet-a-long? I love the feeling that I’m working on the very same project as a whole bunch of other people, and checking in and seeing everyone else’s work. But it has to be something special, and something challenging to keep me interested.

If this is the kind of thing you like too, then look no further than Rainbow Valley Crafts. Helen Free has designed several beautiful Crochet-a-longs, and while they have already been completed, you can still join in. Her patterns are available on her website, and for Cygnet Yarns, you may still be able to buy kits! The one you see to your left is the Secret Garden CAL. The pattern is made up of six different squares and you can make these six squares in as many colourways as you like, but four is recommended for a single bed sized throw. I made it in six colourways, because I wanted a larger one.

Oh I do love to crochet by the seaside…

This is the Kiss Me Quick CAL, with a seaside theme. There are rock pools, beach huts, ice cream cones, umbrellas and sand castles to be made here, all with a vintage postcard colour palette. Simply delicious. This one was the third of Helen’s CALs. I missed out the Space Odyssey CAL because I was still working on my Secret Garden one at the time! But I may return to it sometime, because I love her style. Space Odyssey has aliens, astronauts, spaceships, planets, and the edging looks fantastic. If I write much more about it, I will have to go and buy the pattern… it is hard to resist!

I heard a rumour there may be another CAL starting, so it may be a good idea to visit her website and start following her social media if you want to join in with everyone else! I might just do it too.

Have you ever participated in a CAL? Which one? Share your CAL experiences below. I would love to read all about it!
