A Pattern by Maryetta Roy
Before I forget, here is the link for this beautiful Halloween/Samhain/Dia de los Muertos project!
I had my beady eye on this for a pretty long time before I started it, but yes, I eventually did get going on it and it went by like the wind, and before I knew it, I was finished! I made my shawl in Aran wool, in a bone colour. My plan, eventually, is to decorate the skulls so that they will look like the Sugar Skulls of Dia de los Muertos celebrations. For now though, it is a ghostly bone white.
Parts of this pattern remind me of the Pineapple stitch pattern, except that in the middle where the crossovers are, there are skulls. Hats off to Maryetta for this cool twist on a traditional pattern!
Have you got time to hook one up for yourself this season? I mean, there’s always next year, but can you resist?
And I wonder… if you did this in bright green, would it look like aliens?
