#endloneliness with Unravel & Unwind

We’ve Launched on Patreon!

As you may know, I have been volunteering at Unravel & Unwind CIC for several years now. But I’m not sure if I’ve ever blogged about what I do there, or what Unravel & Unwind actually is.

Unravel & Unwind provides space and time for creative people to come together and craft and chat, lessening the isolation that creative hobbies and businesses can often involve. Our space in Rochester, Kent, England has its regulars, and they have become a sort of extended family to us. But what if it’s just not possible to get here?

Launching into Cyberspace…

Many people who are into crafting suffer from mobility problems or chronic illnesses, and crafting is an activity that is not as taxing on the body but very enjoyable. This can mean, however, that they are stuck at home doing so and are missing out on the social aspect that crafting in a group can provide.

Unravel & Unwind is now providing all crafters with the best of both worlds. Patrons access the virtual drop-in via Zoom Cloud Meetings, a free app that can be downloaded to a mobile device or accessed on a computer. Microphone and Camera output can be switched on or off, meaning that patrons can fully control the level of engagement they want to have during these sessions: mute microphone and don’t share the camera, and you become a fly on the wall, listening to the conversation and seeing what people are making but not making any contribution yourself. Share your microphone and you can join the chat, share your camera and you can show the others what you’re making, or share a smile.

…at what cost?

Membership costs $3 (yes, American dollars) per month plus VAT for the base level, which is attending virtual drop-ins, held a minimum of once per week, but far more during our launch month of March!

If you want to become more involved, our second tier comes in at $15 a month and includes a monthly workshop (you provide supplies), and you can experience the workshop live, or access the replay if you can’t attend at the time. The second tier also allows you access to our private Facebook group, where we can continue our conversations long after the drop-in has finished, and also you can provide us with suggestions for workshops, and feedback about what times best suit you for drop-ins, etc.

Our top tier, our Very Important Crafter membership, is $30 a month. You get absolutely everything that we have to offer, and have ever offered for this price. You have full access to all past and future workshops, a 1 on 1 session with either Faye or myself for a craft tutorial or workshop of your choice, and exclusive early access to Faye’s newest crochet designs!

Our launch month has arrived! Between the 1st and the 18th of March, the first 100 patrons of any tier will receive a Founder’s gift, and founders will get something special each year on the anniversary of launch.

Whether you’d like to take part in this regular meeting of the minds, or whether you just think it’s a good idea, we would love your support. Find us on our Patreon Page.
